FAQ | GESI Self-Assessment

Why Create This Self-Assessment?

The ADB South Asia Regional Department (SARD) Front Office (SAOD) and Energy Division (SAEN) collaborated to develop this Self-Assessment as a diagnostic instrument for helping to plan Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) interventions and to track the results over time.

For Whom Is It Intended?

The Self-Assessment is intended to be completed by SAEN's partner energy utility companies. The questions focus on corporate policies, procedures, activities and other measures that promote gender equality and social inclusion. Rather than focusing on specific projects, this self-assessment looks at the overall corporate enabling environment for achieving gender equality and social inclusion.

When Should It Be Used?

SAEN intends for the survey to be completed by all energy sector borrowers prior to formalizing project GESI Action Plans, as well as to be revisited at regular intervals and/or specific milestones (e.g., at project entry and at exit) in order to help determine where and how to best invest time and resources for GESI mainstreaming. After the first time that a company completes the survey, answers are stored so that they can be revisited and quickly updated.

Is It Secure?

Yes, the platform is secure.

The application consists of a serverless runtime environment and JavaScript configuration files and data files stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The application utilizes AWS IAM for secure account management.

The application consists of an AWS serverless runtime environment, JavaScript configuration files, and data files stored on AWS Simple Storage Service (S3). The application utilizes AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) for secure account management.

Communication between your computer and the application uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) and is encrypted by way of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) cryptographic protocol. Access to the application, as well as data access for each client account, are controlled using IAM roles, with the survey application architecture fully separated from client data storage—each with its own dedicated S3 bucket. Only appropriately credentialled users may access the application, and fine-grained access permissions control the permissions for application administrators, survey creators and editors, and survey respondents.

ADB recognizes that some borrowers may prefer other cloud application architectures. While this self-assessment has been designed and built using AWS, should any borrower wish to port the application to an alternative architecture (e.g. Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Google Firebase, etc.), we have ensured that the application designed patterns are generalizable and capable of being re-deployed. If you find the survey useful and wish to re-deploy it to an alternative service provider, we would be happy to discuss this possibility.

Who Owns / Maintains The Information?

ADB SAEN owns and maintains this application instance. Development partners are responsible for maintaining the survey responses.
